Telephone Lines

The telecommunications industry is changing

With the introduction of new technology people are unsure which line they may require. If you’re confused then let us help you, all we need to know are your requirements and we’ll advise you on which line is best for you.

There used to be two types of telephone lines; analogue lines and the old digital lines being ISDN2e and ISDN30e. In 2017 the telecommunications industry announced that these lines would be upgraded and the old public switched telephone network would be withdrawn. The new digital technology would replace these using an internet connection, such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Digital Voice or All-IP telephony.

The industry had a deadline of December 2025 which, due to various complexities, has now been extended to January 2027.

VOIP, IP, SIP, ISDN

VOIP, IP, SIP, ISDN, Cloud, Hosted Telephony and so on. So what do they mean?

We’ll keep it light-weight but if you want us to get in to the nitty-gritty we’d love to do so. Just ask!

In the mean time…

  • CLOUD = Computers Located Over Universal Datacentres (it’s not really - we just made it up but it does sum cloud computing quite well we think)

  • VOIP = Voice over Internet Protocol

  • IP = Internet Protocol

  • SIP = Session Initiated Protocol

  • ISDN = Integrated Services Digital Network

  • Hosted Telephony - Telephone systems hosted in data centres

  • Data Centre - Secure buildings with dedicated internet access enabling many large computers to provide various services to businesses, government and individuals.
